Mary Southall "Blossom" 8x10 Painting

Mary Southall is a San Francisco artist working in acrylic and mixed media. She has been in numerous shows in her original home state of Texas and California including The Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, and The California Museum in Sacramento. Mary continues to create vibrant paintings and mixed media works out of her Hunters Point Shipyard studio.

I've been focusing on incorporating up-cycled materials in my current mixed media work. In this piece I repurposed a discarded collage panel that I found in the trash. By carving around and painting over the layers of paper (now underneath) I hope to give it visual depth and a connection to its past, bringing new life and a fresh perspective to a forgotten treasure.
