Mixed Media on 12 × 12 inch wood art panel
This work, Everything is Everything, is my tribute to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, a body of work that, exactly 27 years ago, gave a generation permission to define its own destiny. As a Black woman and creative, I am still inspired by the way Lauryn’s voice wove together hip-hop, neo soul, reggae and the many rhythms of the African diaspora to create something timeless, authentic, and that unapologetically embodies struggle and transformation.
I see my work as a journey of creative and spiritual transformation, both for myself and for viewers. As a self-taught artist, my journey into painting began as a natural extension of my life-long passion for storytelling. I am inspired to weave emotions and narratives onto the canvas, prompting emotional dialogue. My experience and heritage as an African American / Creole woman, deeply influence my work, along with all forms of community and a deep-seated commitment to social justice. I hope viewers experience new insights, moments of connection and new ways of seeing.
